Jennifer Perlmutter

In this section I want to pay tribute to wonderful abstract artists of different nationalities and different styles. Most of them are not known to the big public, but they are ones that have greatly inspired me and expanded my understanding of what is possible.

So, here is an artist that I admire for their unique vision, true knowledge of their inner self that they manifest in their work and the passion that exudes in the images they create.

Here’s something I came accross the other day. Jennifer Perlmutter is an US based artist with a lifelong interest in art. I find something mesmerizing in her work. Something that speaks directly to me. Her compositions and use of colors are a unique signature on a vast canvas of abstract art world.

I am delighted to have found her. Here is how she puts it in her own words:

”I paint the richness within and the emotions of a complicated, layered world.

With a lifelong interest in the creative merging of art and crafts, Jennifer Perlmutter’s career began with gilding, paint and other media. She produced chinoiserie, artwork and deep, layered finishes on high-end furniture. Much of this work has been featured in LA’s Pacific Design Center and in the homes of celebrities and art collectors worldwide.

By 2001, Perlmutter devoted herself to fine art, exploring metal leaf, watercolor, acrylics and oils. She ultimately found her niche in mixed media on wood and canvas, which she continues to use as her predominant medium today. In 2011 Perlmutter’s TED Talk explored the connection between art and innovation in a 10-minute talk titled, Begin Where You Are. In 2014 she established Jennifer Perlmutter Gallery in Lafayette, CA For 8 years she represented a robust roster of artists with countless exhibits and programming. Her efforts won her the local honor of Marquis Business Person of the Year.

Her art has been collected internationally and shown in New York, Beverly Hills, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Her vision and strong command of application techniques led to commissions from several premier destinations including The Mirage and Hilton hotels in Las Vegas, Seoul’s Traum Haus and Toronto’s Casino Niagara. Most recently the artist’s paintings were included in the prestigious De Young Museum Open. The expansion of her gallery into the art destination village, Carmel by the Sea, allows for a range of work to be seen year round.”

I came across with Lupri’s work about 4 years ago. The world was never the same for me after that. His work is beautiful but the world in them is not polished and shiny. Sometimes you could even find it brutal as it occasionally dives deep inside to the paths unknown. But in the end it leaves you with tranquile state of mind.

  • Rut Bryk

And now for something completely different: Let me introduce you Rut Bryk (1919-1999). She was a major figure in Finnish ceramic art. I’m making an exception here by introducing an artist who has already passed away, but who was also relatively well-known, at least in Finland. However, the majority of Finns may not necessarily be…

    Mami Kawasaki

Mami Kawasaki is one of those great artists, that you can’t find too much information on from the internet. At least, not in English. A while ago I came accross a photograph that presents her standing before her artwork. I looked at the photo for quite a while. The work behind her in the photo…

  • The Danish school: Lars Kristian Hansen, Filica Lysfalk, Rikke Lilholt, Trine Panum

Something very interesting is happening in Denmark. The danes are very well known for their good taste in interior design, but Denmark is also a home for many talented abstract artists.

Of course, it is hard to tell an artists origin by just looking at their work. But there are some artists that share common elements in their work and it sometimes can have something to do with local trends. Or a vision or a view situated on a certain spot in the world

  • Kitty Sabatier

When exploring artists that use minimalist expression in their work, I recently came accross with Kitty Sabatier, a french artist whose work embraces calligraphy, mixed media and subtle earthly colours. By far, I find her work to be the most captivating pieces that I’ve witnessed for a long time. There is a sense in her…
